March 20th, 2020

Dear families,

I have been thinking about you all constantly and I hope that you are all safe and sound.

Here are a few updates that I have for you:
·      I will be in touch about when other school/personal items can be picked up.
·      Yearbook – We are still creating a yearbook for this school year and it will be provided to families at the end of the year or when it is possible.
·      Sound Kreations Dance videos were not taken as we intended due to the cancellation of classes, but M Trevor is going through videos he had taken and will continue to try and make them available. He will be in contact with when he knows more.

I will be in contact when I have more information about programming but for now you can visit this CBE website:

Stay safe and healthy and I will be in touch.

-learned about how germs enter through our bodies during Health. Ask me about it!
-earned some free learning center time at the end of the day where we chose a math, French, or technology activity.

Le 12 mars

Today we...

-continued working on our Daily 5 work and Mme Kelly worked with students on their Grade 2 sounds.
-started our final art project for Iqaluit. We talked about what Mme Kelly is looking for in our quilt square and what a 1, 2, 3, and 4 looks like.
-talked about what our spoken French should sound like in Grade 2 and discussed what a 1, 2, 3, and 4 sounds like when we speak. Ask me about it! We then played a speaking game called Taboo to help us practice.
-worked on using a number line as a tool in math for addition and subtraction. Mme Kelly finished working with students on one double digit addition strategy.

Reminder:
Home reading books and duotangs are due tomorrow for exchange.
PJ day tomorrow! We worked really hard this week and won a PJ day!

Le 11 mars

Today we...

-worked on our Daily 5 centers:

  • Reading to self with a visualization to help show our understanding when reading
  • Reading with a partner and discussing what happened in the book or what information we get
  • Word work - we played word games to help us spell the words of the week (une question, qui, quoi, est-ce que, chaque, la musique). If we already know how to spell these words, we found other words with the 'qu' sound to practice with our games
  • Listening to reading - We are listening to the story  'L'incroyable invention de Félicio'. We have to listen for the characters, the setting, the problem and the solution.
  • Reading with Mme Kelly - we practiced guided reading with our teacher. We are focusing on decoding this week and Mme Kelly is checking which grade 2 sounds we know and which ones we need to improve.
-worked on our place value strategy for double digit addition with Mme Kelly:
25+38=

Tens: 20+30=50
Ones: 5+8=13
Total: 63
This strategy shows our understanding of place value when adding. We will be working on developing other strategies in the coming weeks such as using a number line.

-learned about protecting the environment and why people visit Iqaluit. Ask me about it!
Reminders:
Please return Heritage Park forms by Monday, March 16th
Sound Kreations Dance performance is on Monday, March 16th from 6-630pm. Hope to see you there!
