Bonjour,

This morning we did our daily 5 centers and had a library visit.  After centers we had our library visit.    After recess we worked on how to write negative sentences in French, for example I am not 100 years old.  To do this in French we need to use the words ne and pas, we learned where these words fit into a sentence and then practiced writing sentences.  Salle 6 wrote in their journals and drew me funny pictures about their writing.  In math we looked at balancing equations and used the image of a see-saw to help us.

This afternoon we reviewed how different animals stay warm in the cold.  We played some fun tag games in gym and then we practiced our volleyball skills.

Bonjour,

Tomorrow is library day, please bring your books!  This morning we had daily five centers and then we worked on writing and drawing our own end to stories.  We had an indoor recess because it was so cold outside!

After recess we had music and Mme Zdrill was very impressed with how well Salle 6 was listening.  

In math we kept working on addition, we practiced carrying numbers as a whole class and then students practiced on their own.  

After lunch we did a science experiment to see what happens when snow melts.  We knew it would turn into water when it melted but we wanted to see if there would be more or less volume.  We started with a whole measuring cup of snow and at the end of the day we had just over 1/2 a cup of water!  

In social studies we talked about other cultures in Saskatoon.  We have learned a lot about the Ukrainian influence but today we learned that people in Saskatoon come from more than 25 different countries all around the world!  We also watched some videos about the indiginous people in Saskatoon and we talked about how they have been living on the land for a very long time!

This afternoon we had a special activity with our grade five buddies, we made crazy hats!  Friday is crazy hat day so we made hats that we can wear and we will bring home after!

-We had a special guest who came and taught us about the settlers in Saskatoon. (HH). Thank you to our volunteers!

-MCG is our étoile de la semaine, she did her presentation today! (ED)
-We wrote about our coolers in Science. (NDO)

We are collecting non-perishable food items for the Mayor's Food Bank Drive until December 19.  Items can include:  Pasta sauce, granola bars, juice boxes, powdered milk, stage three baby food, peanut butter, pasta, rice, soup cans or packages, cereal, oatmeal, canned tuna, canned chicken, canned beans, canned fruit, pancake/bread/biscuit mixes, gluten-free pasta, etc.  Thank you for your support!

Bonjour,

I was so impressed this morning with Salle 6, we did 30 minutes of quiet reading!  I was so proud of the students and they earned stickers and an extra ten minutes of recess to play in the snow.

After recess our grade five buddies came and we played math and literacy games.  We did our message of the day and for the first time we did this on the smart board!  Then some students finished their coolers and others did some math work.

This afternoon we tested our coolers.  I was so impressed by the planning and hard work that went into construction.  We tested with freezies and we checked to see if they were frozen every 20 minutes.  Some of the freezies melted but we still learned from doing this experience!  We talked about how if you buy a cooler at the store they use much stronger materials and keeping your freezies frozen for even 20 minutes is a great achievement!

Parent teacher interviews are tomorrow and Friday is no school for students!

Reminders:

November's Parent/Teacher Conferences for Kindergarten to Grade 5 are next THURSDAY, November 21 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm.  There is no school for students on Thursday.

On Wednesday, November 20, our Kindergarten students have Student/Involved Conferences so their is no classes for Kindergarten on Wednesday, November 20.  Grades 1-5 have regular school on Wednesday.  

Friday is a Professional Learning Day for teachers so there is no school for students on this day.

The conference booking system opens tomorrow at 4:00 for families.

Bonjour,

In science, we are concluding our unit of study on Hot & Cold Temperatures. During this unit, we have learned to identify things that are hot and cold (using the words hotter than, colder than), to measure temperatures using thermometers, the effects that heat and cold have on other things (including ourselves!), how to protect ourselves from the heat and cold, how animals protect themselves from cold, as well as how houses and our school are heated and cooled.

As a final project for this unit, your child will be building a miniature ‘cooler’ at school using recyclable/reusable material as much as possible. Students will be building and testing their coolers at school. The cooler that your child builds should be designed to keep a freezie frozen for as long as possible (during the school day).  We will be building coolers next week, if you could please send in recyclable materials before Friday. We will provide various items as options for attaching their recyclables together in the classroom.

• In social studies we wrote about the people of Saskatoon, we learned about how many people came from the Ukraine over 100 years ago! (HH)

-We had music, Mme Zdrill was so impressed with our class that everyone got a point.  Great work today!

-We brainstormed ideas for things that burn, freeze, melt or cook.
-We read about the First Nations in Saskatchewan.
-We had gym.
